Day 13: BORGARNES - DEILDARTUNGUHVER - REYKHOLT - HRAUNFOSSAR - REIKIAVIK - LAGUNA AZUL - KEFLAVÍK AIRPORT

Today is our last full day of the trip to Iceland for free since our flight to Barcelona leaves at 1.40 in the morning from Keflavík airport, although before we have a day of visits and end the day relaxing in the Reykjavik Blue Lagoon.
We woke up a little later than we have been doing these days ago, having breakfast at the Borgarnes Bed & Breakfast with peace of mind, including the time to redo suitcases, so we left Borgarnes after 10 in the morning.
Today we will make several stops before going to eat in Reykjavik and then spend the afternoon in the blue Lagoon, which will be the icing on the cake of this amazing trip to Iceland.

The first stop will be in Reikholt, 40 kilometers from Borgarnes.
The day is quite gray, wanting to rain and we give thanks again for the incredible days we have had, because after reading that there are people who have rain every day of the trip, we came with enough fear of not enjoying the Travel through time. But nothing is further from reality, in total it has rained a single afternoon of 14 days!
We follow the road 1 until the turnoff of the 50 that takes us directly to Reikholt, but before we pass through Deildartunguhver and do not miss the opportunity to stop to see the largest hot spring in Europe.

Deildartunguhver

It is a curious stop, which if you are passing through deserves to spend a few minutes. After this brief visit, we continue to Reikholt where we take a short walk through the area before going to Hraunfossar, the last waterfall we will visit in Iceland, located a few minutes.
Although we had read that they were much less spectacular than those of the rest of the country, we have to say that it is true that they are not so "amazing", but they deserve a stop on the way back to Reykjavik.

At 12 noon and with all the visits made, we set off to Reykjavik, about 90 kilometers fromHraunfossarwhere do we want to eat before going to Reykjavik Blue Lagoon, where we hope to have a perfect ending for #islandiatrip.
To avoid going around the entire peninsula to Reykjavik, we take the road that will take us below the fjord through a tunnel through 1000 ISK and that will save us a good journey time.

We arrived in Reykjavik at 1:45 p.m. after an entry into the city with a lot of traffic, something that has caught our attention since we had not seen so many cars together on our entire trip to Iceland.

And when we go to take the street that leads to Guesthouse Aurora, where we stay when we arrive in Reykjavik and see the streets cut and many people remember that today was celebrated the Culture Night and the Reykjavik marathon, so you can imagine how it is the city. It seems that the whole country is here today.

Reykjavik Streets

In the end we managed to park near the center and we go straight to Fiskfelagio, a highly recommended restaurant in Reykjavik where we ordered a couple of sushi and lobster tempura dishes. All great.

Eating at Fiskfelagio in Reykjavik

Without a doubt, if you like sushi, don't miss this restaurant. All for amazing 4480ISK!
As we still have enough hours until the time when our flight leaves and the time we want to go to the Blue Lagoon in Reykjavik We approached the Paris café where we were on the first day of our trip and ordered a couple of cakes, cappuccino and coffee for 3000ISK
Now we have done the complete desktop.

Desserts in Reykjavik's Café Paris

Although while we are tasting our cake we get the news that Iceland has raised to red alert the possible eruption of the Bárðarbunga volcano and we had a good time flipping the news, to try to clear any doubt, since having the flight tonight, we intuit that It can happen to us like in Cinque Terre, when the flight was canceled.
Seeing that we can't do anything either, we leave Café Paris to go for a walk around a lively Reykjavik that doesn't look anything like the quiet Reykjavik we saw a few days ago.
We enjoyed this animation for a while and at 5 in the afternoon we decided that it is time to go to the last point of the day, Reykjavik Blue Lagoon which is on the way to the airport, about 70 kilometers from Reykjavik.
If you do not have a car, a good option is to book this excursion to the Blue Lagoon that includes transportation and admission.
We arrived at 6 in the afternoon under a threatening gray sky and a column of smoke that shows us the way.

Blue Lagoon in Reykjavik

We park in the parking lot and after taking some pictures we enter the premises. We pay 40 euros per person or not, which is the same 12000ISK for the cheapest ticket that entitles you to use the facilities. If you want some treatment or massage or an extra such as a towel or bathrobe, you have to pay it separately, just like the drinks.
We enter and the first thing we have to do is take off our shoes and leave them outside the area of showers and lockers.
When you pay at the entrance they give you a bracelet and this will help you to open the lockers, pay for the drinks ... everything is recorded there and when you go out, you pass it through a machine and if you have any extra you pay it with the card or in cash.
Once in the showers, you choose the locker you want, you put your things you close and close the bracelet to the screen. This is our ticket office number and it closes. To open it you put the bracelet back and it opens by itself. The truth is that the process is a bit messy, but once you get the hang of it, it's easier 🙂
Before entering Reykjavik Blue Lagoon You have to shower naked and once done you can access the facilities.
And from here you can imagine. We are a couple of hours enjoying absolute relaxation in a wonderful enclave, which, however touristy, we recommend 100% and more if you can come hours before catching your flight, as the end of the trip.

Reykjavik Blue Lagoon

At 9 o'clock at night we leave and after a while at the facilities consulting the latest news of the volcano with the free Wi-Fi connection they have, we go to Keflavík airport.
We fill the gas tank at a nearby gas station to deliver it as we picked it up and go to the Avis parking area, where we directly return the car at the offices.
Once the suitcase is billed and with the tickets in hand we go straight to dinner a couple of pizzas with coke and water for 4500 ISK.

Dinner at Keflavík airport

Now it's time to wait. Waiting for that plane that will take us back home. And start dreaming about the next trip. In 15 days we hang our backpacks.
