We do not risk too much if we affirm that Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. But we are not going to tell you what its charms are, for that we already talk about the 30 things to see and do in Prague. If you have arrived here it is because you are someone with a lot of luck, and you have days off on your trip to Prague, so you thought “why not take a little trip? If this is your case and you don't know where to start, you are in the right place: we will tell you the 5 best excursions from Prague on day.

Not all excursions are pleasant, but you know that when traveling we have the opportunity to know (and remember) dark episodes of the history of a place, which will help us better understand its heavy and its present, no matter how much it hurts. This is what happens with the Terezín Concentration Camp, the visit is not easy, but it is necessary. It is located about 60 km from Prague and was used by the Nazis as a model camp, considered by themselves as a city given by the Führer to the Jews, for propaganda purposes. The truth is that over 150,000 people passed through here, of which about 35,000 did not leave alive, and of those who did, the majority were to be sent to their final destination, the terrible fields of Aushwitz and Treblinca (Poland ).

For free

If you want to visit the Terezín Concentration Camp for free, you will have to take a bus at the Florenc station or at the Holesovice station (both in Prague). Terezín is about 60 km away and the bus takes just under an hour to arrive. There are several schedules throughout the day, it is best to ask at your accommodation.

On tour

We believe that this option is the best: the price is not high and the opportunity to visit this concentration camp with a Spanish guide is perfect to learn more about its history. This 6-hour tour includes transfer and guided tour, without the entrance to the field that costs about 220Kc (approximately € 8), or this one that does include the entrance and is somewhat more expensive.

Karlovy Vary is one of the most popular excursions from Prague and very easy to carry out: it is about 2 hours away, in the Bohemia region and is a famous destination thanks to its hot Springs With medicinal properties, In fact, characters like Marx, Freud and Tsar Peter the Great passed through here, among others. So if you want to enjoy a relaxed day (not boring) do not hesitate to approach.

It is another of the most famous Prague excursions, although the reason is much more macabre: here you can visit a chapel full of bones! Specifically it is about Sedlec Ossuary, where there are remains of about 40,000 skeletons! The truth is that it is a site that puts goosebumps. But not only are you going to see bones, the city has a picturesque historic center where you can spend a pleasant day among colorful houses and visit the beautiful cathedral of Santa Barbara. Come on, that an excursion here is worth it.

4. Excursion toČeský Krumlov

If we only had one day left after the visit to Prague, we would probably opt for this excursion. If you enjoy more contemplating the wonders of nature than walking between cities, this plan can be interesting (although we already anticipate that it is not exactly cheap). The Bohemian Switzerland National Park extends east of the Elbe River, near the German border, and is famous for its characteristics sandstone formations. Probably its biggest icon is the Pravcická Brána, the largest natural rock arch in Europe.
